Stella here.
My goodness, th' snow's disappearin' fast!
Harvey went out t' other mornin' an' almost wrenched his back, slidin' on mud on th' way out t' his shed.
He weren't none too happy about THAT, let me tell ya. I weren't neither, t' tell th' truth. Th' few couple o' times that man's been laid up, he's been a pure pain in th' be-hind! But I slapped a hot pack on him an' made him set f'r a spell an' he's doin' fine.
Saw some crocuses up t' other day out in front o' th' library in that sunny patch they got. Sure did seem nice t' see some color that wasn't a label on some ol' piece o' trash that's been buried under snow since who knows when.
I was goin' in t' hear some gal talk about th' book she'd written... somethin' like "What t' Do t' Make Y'r World Smile When Everythin' Around Ya's Gone t' Pot". I tried t' get Molly Eldridge t' come along, seein's how she's always s' perky. But she was nursin' a bad cold an' sounded like a flock o' geese goin' over (honk, honk), so I told her I'd bring back a re-port.
Much's I hate t' say it, that poor woman (th' author) didn't hold a candle t' Molly. She (th' author) just kep' sayin' "Now ya got t' stay alive in yer joy," 'r somethin' like that. Stay alive in yer joy???
What kinda gobbledy gook is that?
Why, even them hippies we had back in th' 70's, THEY said better stuff t' say than that.
This poor soul was all gussied up in a beaded dress looked like she was booked t' sing on a cruise. Most o' th' ladies there was dressed in sensible warm duds, an' boots - 'cause o' the mud, o' course - an' wouldn't ya know it, th' library heat went out again an' I thought that author woman was gonna turn blue from cold. Th' beads on her dress was shakin' an' rattlin' s' loud I had trouble hearin' her!
It amazes me what some people'll pay money t' read. I guess long about this time o' year, though, we'll turn out t' hear just about anybody talk about anything f'r free. An' Nelda Hummer, th' new librarian, did put out a nice spread o' cookies she'd baked, so 'twasn't a total loss.
I got a piece o' news t'day from Pat G down t' Lewiston. Said she'd been in-vited over t' the public radio studio there (MPBN) t' re-cord a couple o' her stories f'r a pilot f'r a new radio show that might be startin' up about storytellin' in Maine 'r some such. If that don't beat all!
She said she'd let us know when it was gonna be on. Said it was gonna have a bunch o' other storytellin' friends o' hers and we'd be tickled t' hear 'em!
Well, I suppose I've run on long enough. I keep thinkin' I'll write here more often - an' then I don't get around to it. So when I do get on, I guess I kinda natter on longer'n I should.
Anyways, it was nice talkin' to ya.
Love,
Stella
